Data Breach reporting laws are being strengthened to protect user data and privacy. As of 22 February 2018, the Notifiable Data Breach (NDB) scheme is active in Australia as an amendment under the federal Privacy Act 1988. 

Complacency is the greatest risk to customer privacy today. A massive 83% percent of companies are complacent about their mobile security, according to the recently published Verizon Mobile Security Index 2018 Report. The report also revealed a significant number of concerning insights relating to how corporations are securing their mobile fleet – and how inadequate their security measures are.

As companies continue to strive for greater workforce productivity, they are not always aware of the inherent risks new technologies introduce and therefore don’t adequately plan to address them.

Since the new Notifiable Data Breach came into effect on February 22, 2018, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) has received over 31 notifications of eligible breaches.
