It’s a little-known fact but pesky little SIM card registration failure messages only seem to appear on your mobile phone at the most inopportune moment. Ever had one when you didn’t need to access your mobile network?

In some cases, software glitches within your phone's operating system can cause random SIM failures so it’s important to keep your phone's software up to date. When your device isn’t strictly managed, it’s easy to lose track of updates and software patches, exposing you to potential security gaps that put your business at risk. Opting for a managed mobility service takes care of any operating system updates that could interfere with your connectivity.

SIM failures can also be triggered by a billing issue if you’re not timely in paying your monthly accounts. Roaming restrictions can also lead to SIM failure messages.

One of the most common culprits for SIM failures is decidedly low-tech: Fibres from your clothing or debris in your pockets can render the SIM inoperable. If this is the underlying cause of the failure, it can be simply remedied by removing the SIM tray of your device, cleaning it with a clean cloth and inserting it again. If that fails, performing a restart/reset can often kickstart the SIM into action. Make sure you place your SIM correctly in the tray before securely closing it.

But when you’re faced with the pressures of corporate life on the road, who needs the stress of troubleshooting a faulty SIM?

When an executive of one of our customers got the SIM card registration failure message midway through touring the country as part of his company’s twenty-city roadshow, he didn’t panic, he reached out to imei.

But when our team remotely investigated and found no network or account issues and stepping him through cleaning the SIM card and doing a restart/reset procedure proved ineffective, we had to find another way.

With the executive about to board a flight from Sydney to Brisbane, one of our dedicated Service Delivery Managers got hold of a blank sim and managed its urgent connection before delivering it to the airport in Brisbane. Our team had the new SIM waiting for our executive when he disembarked, allowing him to simply pick it up and restore connectivity on the way to his next event.
