As Australia’s largest healthcare initiative gets underway with the rollout of the Single Digital Patient Record (SDPR), imei is playing an important part making the vision for a single, unified electronic medical record a reality in the Hunter New England local health district.

Envisaged by NSW Health, the SDPR aims to replace fragmented, legacy systems, allowing clinical staff across NSW to access a patient's complete history instantly on mobile devices. Focused on transforming digital healthcare recordkeeping, the SDPR unifies its core electronic medical records, patient administration, and pathology systems into one, state-wide platform. The enormous scope of the project covers:

  • 228+ public hospitals,
  • 600+ community health centres
  • 60+ pathology laboratories and 150+ collection centres

The technology to unify core electronic medical records, patient administration systems, and pathology systems for the SDPR is being delivered by US healthcare software company Epic Systems. And with Spectralink’s purpose-built mobile devices chosen for the Hunter New England local health district, imei has been brought on board to deliver mobile device staging services.

Making sure devices can be used immediately upon deployment

Our critical role prepares devices for deployment by configuring them with the necessary software and user access controls as well as testing to verify performance and connectivity. It involves making sure devices are secure, compliant with regulations, and optimized for clinical workflows. The staging process includes:

  • Loading security protocols, such as installing an MDM client, enabling encryption, and setting up remote tracking in case of loss or theft.
  • Installing Epic Systems healthcare applications on the handsets.
  • Configuring security settings and secure user access controls.
  • Ensuring the devices are optimized for voice-critical communications on hospital networks.

To deliver the transformation program, NSW Health has set up the Single Digital Patient Record Implementation Authority (SDPRIA), with the Hunter New England local health district scheduled to go live in May this year.
